Mljet Island, St. Paul´s road: Cycle and discover our natural heritage
Meeting point & Transfer: Dubrovnik
Start point: Ston, Pelješac peninsula
Cycle and discover Mljet Island, St. Paul´s road.
Mljet is an island found on the southernmost and easternmost parts of the larger Adriatic islands of the Dalmatia region of Croatia. The National Park includes the western part of the island, Veliko jezero, Malo jezero, Soline Bay and a sea belt. It is an ancient island rich in history and culture firstly discovered by ancient Greco-Roman geographers. The island was first described in the 6th century BC. Greeks called the island "Melita" which evolved to become the Slavic name, Mljet.
The excursion starts with a ferry ride from the port Prapratno near Ston. Upon arrival to Sobra ferry port in Mljet, the cycling part of the excursion begins. Cycling from the ferry port to the first stop, Odysseus cave we take a break for sightseeing and also have a snack before we continue in the direction of the National park Mljet. The National Park is a large area that borders two salt water lakes. Right in the middle of the Large Lake there is a small island called St. Mary with a large building of the former Benedictine monastery now turned a restaurant and is connected by boats from both sides of the Lake. We carry on the tour by cycling around the lakes and then heading toward a small place named Polače where we can have a taste of the local cuisine in one of the restaurants, right before we return back to the ferry port to return to Prapratno.
