Railroad of Ciro, Mostar & Imperial Vineyards
Start point: Mostar
The historic Ciro railway is remembered for its steam locomotives, running through the landscapes of Herzegovina, starting from Mostar along the Neretva River, all the way across the Croatian border, ending in Dubrovnik. Construction of the line began in 1898 and finished in 1901. Today, the route has been converted into a cycling trail.
The bike tour starts in Mostar, where we will cycle past historical landmarks with views of the Old Bridge. Leaving the city along the Neretva River, we reach the source of the Buna River in the old town of Blagaj. This beautiful location, 12 km from Mostar, is home to the Dervish Tekija, built at the river source.
Break: Buna spring
City of Mostar
Built by the Ottomans along the Neretva River around the Old Bridge, which connects the city’s banks. Unique for its houses and monuments, the city preserves the character of Ottoman, Austro-Hungarian, and above all Herzegovinian heritage, maintaining its famous craftsmanship for centuries.
Blagaj
The medieval Old Town of Blagaj – Herceg Stjepan Kosača dominates Blagaj near Mostar (Herzegovina gets its name from this title), located on the slopes of Velež, under the cliff where the Buna River springs, framed by the Dervish Tekija. The fortress of Herceg Stjepan Kosača on Hum is a national monument of BiH and one of the best-preserved in the country.
Break: Buna spring
Wine route: Imperial Vineyards
Cycling back to Mostar along the wine road in the heart of Herzegovina, the region’s most important vineyard area, discovering the local tradition of producing the famous Žilavka and Blatina wines. We will visit a winery for a tasting.
