Day 3. Mount Lovćen & Mausoleum of Njegoš
Lovćen is a mountain and national park in southwestern Montenegro. Mountain rises from the sea closing the bays of Boka Kotorska. Besides natural beauties, the national park was established to protect the rich historical, cultural and architectural heritage of the area. We will visit the mausoleum of Peter II Petrović, the national poet and founder of Montenegro. He is buried in a sarcophagus with view on the Kotor Bay. Cetinje town Cetinje is a historical Royal Capital of Montenegro. The town is located on a small karst plain surrounded by limestone mountains, including Mt. Lovćen, the Black Mountain from which Montenegro gets its name. We will see old buildings and palaces which are today museums, libraries and art galleries today. In our guided tour, we will climb around Ostrog monastery, situated against an almost vertical background, high up in the large rock of Ostroška Greda, in Montenegro. It is dedicated to Saint Basil of Ostrog, who was buried here. The monastery is located in Danilovgrad Municipality, Monastery is the most popular pilgrimage place in Montenegro. Zlatibor is a mountain of plateau type, it is undulating landscape clearly different from its surrounding, with special geographical characteristics. Zlatibor, Mountain Village We are proud of the rich past and tradition of Zlatibor´s tourism, whose success was patiently built by generations of tourist workers. The town´s original name was Kulaševac. In August 1893, King Aleksandar Obrenović came to Kulaševac, and built The King´s Fountain. In 1903, King Petar Karađorđević built a villa on the site, helping strengthen the growing trend of turning the slopes surrounding Kraljeva Voda into a vacation spot. In 1995, the name change to Zlatibor, out of respect for wounded Zlatibor Partisans who were murdered by Nazi army in 1941. Day 7. Old Railway: Šargan 8, Mokra Gora
Mokra Gora is a mountain ethno village located between the Tara and Zlatibor mountains, famous for its natural sights and the Šargan eight Ethno village Drvengrad A village made of wood, as its name suggests, it was built in the ancient style and has a timeless aura about it. Drvengrad is complete with church, art gallery, cinema, bookstore, pastry shop, national restaurant, and a folk handicrafts store. Lunch: local cuisine Old Railway: Šargan 8 Šargan Eight is the Europe´s most attractive narrow gauge museum railway, mentioned as the masterpiece among the similar railways. From 1925 until 1974 the railway connected Belgrade to Sarajevo. As predicted by Mitar Tarabić, a railway had been built and then forgotten. However, people did remember it and the railway was rebuilt as a visitor attraction. Today, the sounds of wooden wagons on steel rails can once again be heard between Šargan and Mokra Gora. Travelling the famous figure of eight route, it’s almost impossible for passengers to determine where the train has already passed and where it has yet to go.
