Railroad of Ciro, Mostar & Imperial vineyards
Start point: Mostar
The Ćiro railway is remembered in history for its steam locomotives, it passes through the Herzegovinian landscapes starting from Mostar, along the Neretva river, all the way across the Croatian border, ending in Dubrovnik. The construction of this trail began in 1898 and ended in 1901. Today, that path has been converted into a bicycle path.
The cycling tour starts in Mostar, we will visit historical sights with a view of the Old Bridge. We leave the city along the Neretva river, and we reach the spring of Bunica in the old town of Blagaj via Bun. A beautiful place located 12 km from Mostar, where we visit the dervish tekija, built at the source of Bunica, above which we climb the Stjepan fortress.
Pause: the source of river Buna
City of Mostar
A city built by the Ottomans along the Neretva River around Stari Most, which connects the banks of the city. Unique in its houses and monuments, the city preserves its Ottoman, Austro-Hungarian character, and drinks everything from the Herzegovinian climate, thus maintaining its famous craft production for centuries.
Blagaj
The medieval Old Town of Blagaj -Herceg Stjepan Kosača dominates Blagaj near Mostar (after whose title Herzegovina got its name), it is located on the slopes of Velež, under the rock where the Buna River springs, framed by the Dervish Tekija. The fortress of Herceg Stjepan Kosača on Hum is a national monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and is one of the best preserved in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Pause: Source of river Buna
Wine Road: Imperial Vineyards
We cycle back to Mostar along the wine road in the heart of Herzegovina, the most important vineyard in the region, getting to know the local tradition of producing the famous Žilavka and Blatina wine varieties. There we will visit the Winery for wine tasting and a cheese and ham plate.
