Excursion's informations

Railroad of Ciro, Dubrovnik & Hercegovina Vineyards: Cycle and Discover Our Heritage
Meeting & Transfer: Dubrovnik
Start point: Ivanica border

The Ciro railway is historically known for its steam locomotives and runs through the landscapes of Herzegovina, starting from Mostar, along the Neretva River, crossing the Croatian border, and ending in Dubrovnik. The construction of this route began in 1898 and was completed in 1901. Today, it has been transformed into a cycling trail.

Ivanica: View of the Adriatic
We start the day riding from Ivanica, offering a beautiful view of the Adriatic. The route continues through Popovo Polje, passing old railway stations such as Ravno and Zavala, which have been converted into restaurants. We continue our route through other old stations up to the Ciro Museum and the Vjetrenica cave.

Vjetrenica Cave and Ciro Railway Museum
Vjetrenica, also known as the blower, is the largest cave in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is one of the richest caves in the world in terms of subterranean biodiversity, with over two hundred different species recorded.
Pause: Restaurant Zavala

The museum is located near the cave, where a beautifully adapted railway station has been converted into a restaurant.

Wine Route: Hercegovina Vineyards
We cycle back to Trebinje via the wine road in the heart of Herzegovina, the region´s most important wine-growing area, learning about the local tradition of producing famous wine varieties such as Žilavka and Blatina. We will visit a winery for a wine tasting.
Tasting: Wine

End of the tour: Trebinje

Trebinje
Trebinje is known for its preserved architecture, including Orthodox churches, Ottoman mosques, and Austro-Hungarian buildings. Numerous archaeological findings and historical monuments testify to the civilizations and peoples who have inhabited the area of present-day Trebinje and its surroundings for centuries.
